COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State’s offensive coordinator Brian Hartline does not care about recruiting rankings.
Practically every coach will say that if you ask them on the record, but not every coach will mean it. Hartline’s one of the few who does, and that mindset has often been a significant advantage on the recruiting trail while highlighting his eye for talent. When he sees something he likes, he goes out and gets it without wasting much time.
That approach has yet to fail him as he enters a 2024 recruiting cycle needing to once again reload the wide receiver room and it’s once again led to success with the commitment of Mylan Graham. funny ohio state shirts
Graham was not the nation’s No. 27 player and No. 5 wide receiver when he first came onto Hartline’s radar. He was an unknown, unrated kid out of New Haven, Indiana, who’d showed up at the Buckeyes’ first one-day camp of the summer last June hoping to make a name for himself. He walked away as one of the standout players of the afternoon on a day where 2024 targets Elijah Rudoplh, Aaron Scott, Garrett Stover — now committed — and Jalen Thompson — who picked Michigan State — also earned offers. It was also the same day current early enrollee Jermaine Mathews started his ascent to top 100 status in the 2023 class.
