India endured a disappointing campaign at the Women’s Softball Asia Cup 2023 in Incheon, South Korea, and bowed out in the opening round after failing to win any of their eight matches at the LNG Sports Town.
India, ranked 53rd in the world, started their campaign with a 19-0 loss to world No. 3 Chinese Taipei on April 2 and slumped to a 21-0 defeat - their heaviest in the tournament - against world No. 13 China later in the day.
The Indian women’s softball team failed to win any of its remaining six matches in the competition and ended at the bottom of the pile after the opening round with eight losses. India scored just two runs throughout the tournament, one each against Singapore and Korea, while conceding 96.
With rain interfering with the schedule and the fourth day of the tournament having been washed out completely, multiple matches needed to be rescheduled. The format of the continental meet was also altered by the organisers to shorten the tournament because of the delays.
